Update on Rosary Chain

I just wanted to share the power of God with you all on this project. I blogged earlier about my encounter with a local, pro-choice politician, and how that ultimately led me to starting a Rosary chain to soften the hearts of these politicians and lawmakers particularly those in my State. Well the Holy Spirit took that plan (God's plan in the first place - not mine) and ran with it. We now have over 60 participants and a total of 15 complete Rosaries being said each day for our intentions! That is a veritable shower of prayer to rain down on these hardened hearts and turn them back to God!!!

I am so excited! The Rosary IS the answer! I highly encourage everyone to organize this type of prayer chain in their local area. If you need any guidance please feel free to send me a message. I truly believe this is the only way to fight abortion and it is the way God has shown us. When we pray the Gospel in the Rosary we are using the ultimate weapon! Take up your weapons and head into battle!!

Christmas cards for a soldier

I keep meaning to blog about this but haven't had a chance. My family adopted a soldier recently through Soldiers Angels, an awesome organization. When you adopt a soldier you are committing to one care package a month and one letter a week for the duration if their deployment. It's been a great experience; my kids love drawing pictures for him and shopping for him. I won't lie, it's starting to get tricky finding things to write to him about, as he is not able to reply so far and I don't know much about him. But I just ramble on and hopefully he doesn't mind.

I have been thinking about a big project that I'd like to do for my soldier: I would really love to get a whole bunch of folks to send him Christmas cards. My new best friend - Ave Momma

I went to a fundraising even tonight for our school that had wine tasting, food, and vendors for Christmas shopping. It was a really great evening, loads of fun, with friends and good food, and well, all that kind of stuff, you know. Or if you're like me, you don't know because you never get out, but I did get out tonight and, whew!, was it fun!! My favorite part of the whole night though was meeting this terrific woman named Maria who makes the most gorgeous Rosary Wrap Bracelets. They are beautiful!! Plus the name of her business is so darn cute - Ave Momma. That alone should make you want to stop right now and go to her website here.

I don't know what it is with me but I keep hitting it off with salespeople and service providers lately. First there was the guy that did my patio, or well, sold me the patio, I guess he didn't actually do the work. I think I blogged about him and his wife. They came over one Saturday morning to sign the contract and they ended up staying for hours. We had such a good time that I thought he should really cut us a break on the patio what with being our new best friends and all.

But it's just as well, now that I have to dump him anyway, because I have a new new best friend and that is Maria who makes the beautiful Rosaries. She is the mom of 5 (#6 on the way) and homeschools, and then in her spare time (I have no idea how she has any, her oldest is only 11) she makes these fabulous Rosaries. So, GO, go to her website and order some. Christmas is only 42 days away and these make awesome gifts. Plus, she is my new best friend. And, no, I didn't get a discount on a bracelet, but I didn't get one on the patio either.

Vatican Splendors

I'm on the bus headed home from seeing the very awesome exhibit "Vatican Splendors". I wanted to be able to write something pithy and insightful about my impressions, but really, I've got nothing. Just that it was awesome. And, if you are lucky enough to live in the vicinity of one of the three cities this exhibit will be visiting, than you should go. It was kind of like a dream; there were so many amazing and beautiful things - such beauty created to glorify Our Lord! - that I can hardly remember it. I'm glad there was a catalog of the show in the gift shop!

I will tell you about one part of the exhibit that, unexpectedly, moved me the most. Towards the end of the exhibit there is a cast, in bronze, made from the hand of Pope John Paul II. It is the only piece in the exhibit that they invite you to touch. So I reached out and put my hand into the hand of that great Pope. And I burst into tears. I didn't even know that I was going to cry, I just suddenly did. I was so moved. I closed my eyes and I just prayed for his intercession; for me, for my family, for The Church and for the world. When I left the exhibit after that I felt profoundly changed. Maybe not forever, but for that moment in time, I was changed.

Latest Happenings

It's been so long since I've blogged. FB kind of gets in my way, as it satisfies my immediate need to leave no thought unsaid; but in the long run, it's not nearly so satisfying as a long soliloquy. Ha ha!

I've had some interesting things happen lately, but none so interesting as my run in with my newly elected state senator on Nov. 3rd, the day after the elections. I've written about it several times, both on Facebook and in e-mails, so I will just share with you a synopsis my friend Angela wrote up on Facebook. I'm going to take out the Senator's name though because I do not have tangible evidence (video or audio) to cover myself against slander charges:

The following is an account of a conversation that newly elected State Senator
-- --(D) had with 3 personal friends of mine on the morning of 11/3/10. I will
leave it to them to contribute their names if they wish to.

Sadly, he
eeked out a victory over Senate hopeful -- -- (R). -- -- (D)'s classless and
belittling behavior seems to typify that condescending attitude from many
(especially Democrats) in government that we have all grown tired of. Knowing
the innately truthful character as well as the level of intelligence of each of
the ladies that reported this conversation, I am completely confident in the
accuracy of it.

Today 3 friends were having coffee at a local shop when
-- -- (D) was spotted in the establishment. As politically savvy citizens, they
decided to take the opportunity to try to engage in a conversation with their
new representative about a topic they hold dear to their hearts. They are
pro-life and they voted for -- -- (D)'s opponent, a Republican who is also
Pro-life. They hoped to impress upon him their views and maybe just show him
that reasonable, educated, lovely people who are Pro-Life abound in his
district. After all, is this not their right? To ask for an audience to our
concerns from an elected representative is our right. What they got, instead,
was a rambling, raving, lecture from an unhinged, overconfident EMPLOYEE.

C. [name withheld] states that after she and her companions noticed him
they invited him to their table “to ask him to please reconsider his stance on
Respect for Life and this is what we got:

‘if Republicans cared about
the babies after they were born we wouldn't have a problem, because I have seen
all the black babies in the hospitals in [Big City] that no one wants.’

When they responded that “those babies would CERTAINLY not be better off
dead”, -- -- (D)inquired:

"So you want to wait 'til they turn 15 and
kill someone, then you will want them dead?"

Then, when the conversation
turned to the topic of their religion, (all three ladies are Catholic) he
proclaimed that there wouldn’t be an abortion problem if it weren’t for the
Pope. C. was appalled at his demeanor and lack of respect for his constituents
and their religion. She says “He attacked the Pope when he said;

‘It’s
[abortion] all his fault because he preaches against birth control.’

Some of the ladies pointed to the fact that statistics show that there
are countries in Africa whose AIDS rates actually increased after programs were
put in place that widely distributed condoms. The fact is that while condoms are
useful in preventing pregnancy they don’t seem to have had a positive effect on
the number of people contracting AIDS, so maybe abstinence really is a better
policy all around. And maybe strengthening the foundations of family and
marriage in our society creates an environment where more children are born into
loving homes where they are, in fact, wanted. But who are we to have a point of
view. Oh, and lest I forget, here is ---- (D)'s answer to why condoms have not
been so effective in those programs in Africa:

"That's ‘cause they are
stupid."

Yep, you read that right. To quote C.: “So to sum it up, -- --
thinks the black babies in [Big City] are better off dead, abortion is the
Pope's fault and the people of Africa are stupid. There's your State Senator
[State] district 3, hope you're happy.”

Next up on -- -- (D)'s chopping
block? Jews. Apparently he speaks for all of them. Here is what he has to say on
the topic of Jews and Abortion.

“…all Jewish people are pro-choice
because they don't believe a baby is a baby until it can function on its own”

Someone should get Senator elect -- -- in touch with Rabbi Yehuda. I
smell a “teachable moment” here.

C. points out that Senator -- (D)'s
point about Jews simply ignores the fact that [State] allows Late Term
Abortions. That is, abortions taking place long after the 21 week point of life
where there is living breathing evidence all over the country that these tiny
Americans are surviving thank-you-very-much. Mr. --, are you saying that full
term babies that are born and in need of respiratory assistance or other
life-saving interventions are not, according to Jews, actually a baby “yet”? I
think I need some clarification.

The conversation goes on with Senator
-- and 3 of his many employers. Unbelievably, he doesn’t have the good sense to
stop while he’s…well, already shoved his foot in his mouth. Whether it’s
appropriate or not, he’s going to unleash on these 3 unsuspecting citizens who
are, unfortunately, not armed with microphones or cameras. K.(name withheld)
says of the conversation: “it was very surreal. I think I'm still in shock over
what he said and implied. He was not gracious at all. Very combative. You would
think he'd be more polished than that. I am dumbfounded. “

M.(name
withheld) expressed her reaction to -- -- (D)'s ill temper and lack of
professionalism too: “the man was arrogant, disrespectful and rude. You would
not believe the things he said! He basically offended Jewish people, the Pope,
Africa and African American babies in [Big City].”

Additionally, -- --
has it out for -- -- even after the election results are in and -- is the (badly
behaved) victor.

“And he felt the need to keep trashing his opponent
when, not only had he already won, but we asked him very kindly to stop. We had
not said one negative word to him but he could not stop ranting about -- -- (R).
He was unbelieveable.” Says C. of the incident.

When asked why someone
amongst them didn’t pull out a phone and record the conversation, M. stated that
“I think if we knew he was going to act the way he did we would have. He
obviously didn't like some of our opinions!“ while C. answers: “We were stunned,
no one was even thinking that way at the time. I doubt he would have spoken so
candidly were we taping anyway.”

Yes, that really happened. A lot of people have asked me if he was drunk. Drunk on power maybe; it was 9:00 a.m. the morning of his big win. From that experience my friends and I have begun a Rosary chain, for this Senator in particular, and pro-choice politicians in general. We've had a wonderful response and have 4 whole Rosaries going - all 20 Mysteries covered! Even better, people continue to join! We will completely cover these lawmakers in prayer!
