MYERS DESECRATES THE EUCHARIST

University of Minnesota professor Paul Z. Myers made good on his pledge to desecrate the Eucharist today. According to his statement on the subject, "I pierced it [the Host] with a rusty nail (I hope Jesus's tetanus shots are up to date). And then I simply threw it in the trash."
Saying he did not want to "single out just the cracker," Myers also tore pages from the Koran along with a few pages from Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion and nailed them to the Host. He then said, "They are just paper. Nothing must be held sacred. (His emphasis.) Question everything. God is not great, Jesus is not your lord, you are not disciples of any charismatic prophet."
Catholic League president Bill Donohue responded as follows:"A formal complaint against Myers has already been made. What he did—in both word and deed—constitutes a bias incident, as defined by the University of Minnesota. The policy says that `Expressions of disrespectful bias, hate, harassment or hostility against an individual, group or their property because of the individual or group's actual or perceived race, color, creed, religion…can be forms of discrimination. Expressions vary, and can be in the form of language, words, signs, symbols, threats, or actions that could potentially cause alarm, anger, fear, or resentment in others…even when presented as a joke.'
"The University must now take action and apply the appropriate sanction. We are contacting the president, Board of Regents and the Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Office at the school, as well as Minnesota's governor and both houses of the state legislature; the Catholic community in Minnesota is also being contacted.
Moreover, we are also contacting Muslim groups nationwide."It is important for Catholics to know that the University of Minnesota will not tolerate the deliberate destruction of the Eucharist by one of its faculty. Just as African Americans would not tolerate the burning of a cross, and Jews would not tolerate the display of swastikas, Catholics will not tolerate the desecration of the Eucharist."

That's Him!
I am away on vacation in beautiful Cape Cod, MA, but I had an opportunity to check my e-mail and found this story in my inbox. I was moved, so I thought I would share it here. I will keep trying to check in every once in awhile until I get back. Blessings!

Not long ago, somewhere in the hinterlands of Mindanao, a grim tragedy happened. A frustrated father shot dead his wife before finally turning the gun on himself, pulling the trigger. The entire scene was witnessed by a lone survivor, a seven year old boy---the couple's only son. They were so impoverished that his parents thought it was the only way out. Relatives from both sides grieved and pitifully wanted to adopt the orphaned child but they were also very poor. Fortunately, a priest from a nearby town agreed to look after him in his parish locality. It was difficult for volunteer workers in the church to communicate with the boy because he seemed to be always in a state of shock. Teaching was not any easier since he did not have any educational foundation at all, sad to say, illiterate.
One afternoon, while the young lad was attending Catechism class the Church was conducting for the less fortunate children in the neighborhood, the teacher was showing an enlarged poster of Jesus Christ. As he was going around the room, he asked his class,"Do you know who this is?" Every child had a puzzled look as they silently stared at the photo. Suddenly, amid the eerie silence, the boy stood up with eyes wide open and pointing to the poster, "That's HIM! He was the one who was with me at the moment my parents died!", he screamed repeatedly in his native dialect.
Everybody in the room did not know what to say, especially those who knew of the boy's history.

Hey, I got my Blog back!
Well, I logged in here to give you all an update on my oh-so-exciting life and saw on my dashboard that I have 3 blogs! I had been creating an archives blog and copying all of the archives Chris e-mailed me over to it, but now apparently my old blog is back too! The folks at Blogger didn't even let me know. No e-mail, no response, no nothing. How strange. So now you can go here if you want to see my archives. Now I'm wondering if I should copy these 3 or 4 posts over to that one and just have one blog, or leave well enough alone. What would you all do?
So, for that update, let's see....we've had to lower our house price which is not surprising in this market, but I wish the thing would hurry up and sell. The contingency on the other contract (for the new house) is about to expire on July 12th, tomorrow, and we are negotiating with them whether or not they will extend it. I'm not super worried if they don't because, frankly, they are not really selling houses either. So I feel like we can keep on trying to sell ours, and when we do, just go back there and put a contract on a house. Maybe not the exact same lot, but they have a few others I like.
Our other latest sales tactic is putting in all new carpeting. Isn't that always the way? You live with your own dirty filthy carpet for years and then you pay $3500 for someone else to live with nice carpet! Ha ha! So today my house is over-run with carpet guys pounding away and we are stuck here is just three rooms (the ones with hardwood floors) and my kids are destroying this small space as fast as I can pick up after. Also the baby can't take a nap so she is crabby. The only thing that makes her happy is carrying around a box of Lucky Charms and eating from it carte blanche. I'm waiting for her to actually turn into that little leprechaun guy. Oh well, you do what you have to do.
Last but not least, my most exciting news of all... I had a sonogram on Wednesday and learned that we are having another girl! I am very happy because the three boys are already kind of their own little gang - a new boy would have been too young to fit in - and now Johanna will have a sister to be her ally against all the testosterone in this house! I really thought it was going to be a boy, so I actually had to mourn that loss a little bit, just because that is what I had been picturing, but now we are all excited to welcome a new little girl!
Well, off to keep the baby from stepping on carpet nails!
